Many people mistakenly believe that only a selected few can produce a steady flow of creative genius. That’s not true in any way. The reality is, creativeness is pretty much like a muscle that must be exercised to naturally give out good results. If you do not practice on your creative thinking, this ability will pretty much atrophy into extinction. But keep working on it, and this ability will shortly come to you in a snap.
So how does one release their creative thinking? Well, the very first thing is to become a human leech. We don’t mean people should suck the blood out of everyone – we are pronouncing that you need to suck up as much information and knowledge you’ll be able to find. Read everything available – bad and good, and keep your intellect open to the infinite chances of the universe. The more that you know, the more you’ll be wanting to know, and the more your wonder will be exercised. Gear up to be staggered by tiny facts that add a little bit of colour into your life. (more…)
The major determinant of a leader’s productivity level is his degree of imagination. If a leader gives in to imagination, he will be surprised at his level of reasoning and productivity. If you can take a close look at great inventors in life, you will discover that they were people who dared to imagine and find expression for their imagination, regardless of the odds around them.
It is said that the brain is divided into two hemispheres, the left and the right. Creative thinking, also known as lateral thinking, is the use of the right side of the brain to get ideas. But the right brain alone is not involved in the process of getting ideas. Ideas are based on information gathered and stored in the left-brain through learning.
Open mind, flexible, thinking to the edge of the box, these are the traits required to do what you love and actually get paid for it. Often times people I talk to have it stuck in their head that things can only be a certain way like “I love to paint but I could never make enough at it to live” or “I want to surf for a living but no one can really do that and make money except the pros”. These are quite simply limiting beliefs because they limit you from thinking of other ways to turn your passion into a generous income.
In his book, A Whack on the Side of the Head, author Roger von Oech relates an interesting story about creativity.
Lots of young people have some impressive creative ability, whether they are able to perform challenging pieces of music, star in a school play, create captivating paintings, or hold the limelight in a ballet recital. Often such endeavors get the lion’s share of time and focus when people are young, and then priorities shift somewhere along the way. Affording a particular lifestyle can seem much easier in a traditional job, and many times that means that the ballet shoes go into the back of a closet, the paints are put away, the favorite instrument gathers dust, and creative writing goes into speeches rather than novels.
What is possible, what is impossible? How much do we let our “identity” define what we can do or not do in our life? These are questions that have always fascinated me.
Creativity: it’s your unique personal expression. It is the way you interact with yourself and others. It is also a very fun and exciting part of your self to work with when you want to manifest (create) something in your life. It might be that you want to make a change, embrace a new way of living or being, build a successful business grounded in your passion and purpose, define and live a life you love with authenticity and joy.
Every once in a while I have a day where the creative ideas are jumping around in my head faster than I can write them all down. Unfortunately, those days don’t come around very often. At times, I have had to pull out my arsenal of creativity-boosting techniques just to get the juices flowing and I thought I’d share them with you here. Perhaps I’m not the only one who comes up blank sometimes.
