A glass can hold iced coffee (my favorite), orange juice, diet soda, vodka or sludge water. The glass doesn’t care. The glass can also hold vinegar, lemon juice, salt water or pickling brine, it makes no difference to the glass.
The state of the economy can’t be avoided these days. Many of us are still waiting for the Great Recession to end. So what do we do in the meantime? Whether you are affected directly or indirectly by the economic times, bringing art and the creative process into your everyday life is inexpensive, if not downright cheap. You may not be able to afford to purchase a Van Gogh (do you have an extra $100 million?), but you can certainly enjoy a “Sunflowers” or two, plus just about all of Vincent’s known creations. Yet, incorporating art into the personal cycle of daily living involves more than just looking at or appreciating a work of art. It is about changing and even transforming your way of life. The spirit of art is within you and you can develop your own inner creativity anywhere, whether at home or in your office, alone or with friends. How? Here are eight easy ways.
Human beings are creative beings, we’re energizer bunnies that go on creating, and creating, and creating in every which way we can even though we usually remain unaware of our own creative processes. Anything produced by us that is non linear in its operation, and original in form or content, and depends on the choices that we made, is a creative piece of work. Cooking is a creative phenomenon, so is gardening, so is dressing up, make up. Love making is creative work, so is child bearing and rearing; painting, drawing, painting, writing, dancing are creative. Even talking, which requires creation of symbols verbally in order to express inner state of being, is a creative expression. One of the most creative phenomenon, and that which is inbuilt in our body is the act of dreaming. Every night we create, and recreate our dreams. That creativity is spontaneous, inbuilt. It produces symbols and content on daily basis. And we produce these dreams not only when we are asleep, but even when we are awake and going about our daily chores. The power of imagination is a form of dream, and the ability to daydream and fantasize is also a creative act. Hence one can see that ever since an infant is born, creativity becomes a part of our existence.
This past December after one of the many North Carolina snowstorms, we had no power for four days. No phone, no water, no light. No computer, no TV. It was hard to read by candlelight. So I decided to do something I’d been avoiding since the New Age Movement began. I was going to make a vision board.
We all have some creativity within us. It is just a matter of finding what you like, what you are good at and to be prepared with tips to unleash your creative spirit. You can have fun and learn while trying to find your artistic niche. Who knows, maybe you have an image in mind that you would like to capture in paint, a story that would be great on film, ideas for designs that would be great in print, maybe you have knack for animation or perhaps you like to tinker with sound. Before you invest money into any artistic venture, you should do some research to make sure that you are truly interested. If you feel confident to try it on your own, you should start small or you could take a class and learn from a pro.
