The problem with being creative is your creativity. Being creative means you are thinking ‘outside of the box.’ You are attempting to come up with ideas and information which is outside people’s normal experience in certain situations. You are attempting to produce something new and innovative and as a result you are very likely to receive criticism. People like things to be the same. They like to recognise what you are doing and so are nervous of new ways of doing things if you produce something which seems strange and different.
Being innovative and creative is something that is not necessarily inborn. Though there are those who seem to have a nature talent for leaning towards the creative side, one can learn how to get in touch with that function of the brain and with constant practice, actually become good at it.
Every one of us is ‘bestowed’ with creative intelligence that for the most part is under utilized due to other responsibilities and busy lifestyles. This is not to make excuses for the under-utilization of our creative skills but merely an exclamation as to why they are not used more often. The thinking process associated with producing creativity and innovation requires a degree of focus along with a relaxed state of mind. The world we live in today, with hectic work schedules and other life responsibilities is very demanding on both our time and focus. In order to promote our own ability for thinking outside the box and spawn the creativity we seek within ourselves deliberate measures sometimes need be taken.
If you need to test something out properly, try it on children or animals.

This article was inspired by a dialogue that I had with someone who commented on one of my blog posts. The post was about the resources that were required for Creativity. The person was looking for a definitive manual, a list of everything that they would need and the steps that they would need to go through. On reflection, my reply was probably less than helpful, but in a roundabout way I indicated that no such thing existed.
Many people mistakenly believe that only a selected few can produce a steady flow of creative genius. That’s not true in any way. The reality is, creativeness is pretty much like a muscle that must be exercised to naturally give out good results. So how does one release their creative thinking? Well, the very first thing is to become a human leech. We don’t mean people should suck the blood out of everyone – we are pronouncing that you need to suck up as much information and knowledge you’ll be able to find. Read everything available – bad and good, and keep your intellect open to the infinite chances of the universe. The more that you know, the more you’ll be wanting to know, and the more your wonder will be exercised. Gear up to be staggered by tiny facts that add a little bit of colour into your life. (more…)
